Helping Hands in Primary 2
As part of their topic ‘Helping Hands’, Primary 2 were very lucky to get visited by some parents who work in the healthcare sector.
The occupational therapist helped the children to develop their fine motor skills by using play dough and by threading some string through pasta. She also answered lots of questions about what it is like to be an occupational therapist.
The nurse talked to the children about how to keep safe and she told them all about how she helps to make people better in the Accident and Emergency department. She demonstrated how to put on a sling and a plaster. Each child got to apply their own plaster correctly.
The dental nurse came in and spoke to the children about healthy and unhealthy foods. She also showed them how to brush their teeth correctly. She gave each child a timer and a teeth cleaning chart that they can use at home when they are brushing their teeth.
A huge thank you to Claire-Marie, Siofra and Grainne who gave freely of their time and provided the children with invaluable experiences that helped to bring the topic to life. 👩⚕️ 🪥
